Bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)amino-methanedithioic acid is a fluorescent probe that can be used to detect cellulose in the presence of sodium salts. The fluorescence intensity increases as the concentration of cellulose increases. This chemical has minimal toxicity and does not react with human serum or other biological samples. It is stable for a long period of time and easily soluble in water. Bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)amino-methanedithioic acid has been used as a reaction solution to measure the concentration of metal chelate in cotton using plate test. It reacts with metal ions by replacing hydrogens on sulfur atoms with trifluoromethyl groups. The optimum concentration is 0.1 M sodium chloride and 0.5 M bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)amino-methanedithioic acid at pH 8.5
