Product Information
- Pentane, 5-bromo-1,1,1-trifluoro-
5-Bromo-1,1,1-trifluoropentane is a fluorinating agent that is commonly used for the preparation of chlorofluorocarbons. It reacts with hydrogen fluoride to produce hydrofluoric acid and bromine. 5-Bromo-1,1,1-trifluoropentane is most commonly used in the production of 1,2-dichloroethane and 1,2-dibromoethane. The kinetics of the reaction with hydrogen fluoride has been studied by measuring parameters such as carbon tetrachloride, chloride, and n-hexane. A flow system was used to measure these parameters at different temperatures. The inorganic nature of 5-bromo-1,1,1 -trifluoropentane makes it deactivated by chlorine or fluorine compounds. This agent also deactivates fatty acids at higher temperatures.
