Description

[2,8-Bis(trifluoromethyl)-4-quinolinyl]-2-pyridinylmethanone is a phase transfer catalyst that can be used in the transfer of organic compounds from one phase to another. It is used as a catalyst in the separation of organic compounds by liquid-liquid extraction and as a catalyst in the production of polymers. Mefloquine is an antimalarial drug that belongs to the group of quinoline derivatives. It has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth by binding to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA. The compound binds to both bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA and DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, leading to inhibition of protein synthesis, cell death, and inhibition of the production of proteins vital for cell division.
