Description

Monodocosanoin is a lipid-based drug delivery system that is used to improve the bioavailability of drugs. It consists of an inert, low-melting point matrix, such as glyceryl behenate, and a drug. The matrix is made up of solid lipids and has a high surface area for absorption into the body. Monodocosanoin nanoparticles are created by blending monodocosanoin with a surfactant solution, which creates tiny droplets that are then heated and cooled to produce small solid particles. These particles can be used as a carrier for drugs that are difficult to administer because they have poor solubility or stability in water or because they cannot cross the cell membrane. Monodocosanoin nanoparticles have been shown to significantly increase cytotoxicity in vitro with respect to other formulations of the same drug.
