Corydalmine is a natural product that belongs to the group of bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloids. It is an acetate extract of Ophiopogon japonicus. Corydalmine has been shown to have anti-cancer activity against bone cancer cells in vitro, and it may have potential as a chemotherapeutic agent for the treatment of bone cancer. Corydalmine inhibits the growth of bacterial strains by binding to ribosomes and inhibiting protein synthesis. The low bioavailability of this compound may be due to its poor water solubility, which limits absorption from the gastrointestinal tract. This compound also has a high affinity for fatty tissues, which may account for its hepatotoxic effects.
