Erbium (III) oxalate decahydrate is a rare earth metal that has the chemical symbol Er and an atomic number of 68. It is a white, odorless solid with a metallic luster. The powder diffraction analysis of erbium oxide shows that it is composed of a mixture of orthorhombic, monoclinic, and triclinic crystals. The oxide is chemically stable in air at room temperature. Erbium oxide reacts with water vapor to produce hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide, which can be detected by the presence of light emission at 706 nm. When erbium oxide is heated to 900 °C, it decomposes into erbium oxide and oxygen gas. Erbium(III) oxalate decahydrate reacts with lanthanum to form an alloy that emits light upon exposure to radiation.
