This process can also be done using water vapor, which results in the formation of propylene glycol and ethyl decanoate. Propylene glycol is one of the most widely used solvents in pharmaceutical preparations and has been shown to have an antibacterial effect against some bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, but not against others like Escherichia coli.
