Product Information
2-(4-Aminophenyl)pyridin-3-ol (2AP) is a small molecule that has cytotoxic and nephrotoxic effects. It is an inorganic compound containing hydrogen fluoride, sulfur, and benzyl groups. 2AP also reacts with diethylamine to form micelles. These micelles are then used as a model system to study the toxicology of 2AP on kidney cells. 2AP was found to be cytotoxic, nephrotoxic, and inhibit protein synthesis in cultured kidney cells. 2AP also inhibits cysteine metabolism by binding to the sulfhydryl group of cysteine residues in proteins and prevents them from functioning properly. The binding of 2AP to sulfhydryl groups may contribute to its cytotoxicity and nephrotoxicity.
