Methyl 2-(acetoxymethyl)acrylate is an arylation agent that can be used to synthesize aryl iodides. It is used in the synthesis of acetates and yields high stereoselectivity when using palladium-catalyzed reactions. Methyl 2-(acetoxymethyl)acrylate has been found to react with a variety of aryl halides, including bromobenzene, chlorobenzene, and nitrobenzene, and forming methyl 2-bromo-2-(acetoxymethyl)propionate, methyl 3-chloro-2-(acetoxymethyl)propionate, or methyl 4-nitro-2-(acetoxymethyl)butanoate.
