Product Information
- 4'-Nitrobiphenyl-4-Carbonitrile
4-Cyano-4'-nitrodiphenyl may be synthesized by the photoinduced reaction of nitrobiphenyl with a methoxy substituent. The attack of the methoxy group on the nitro group is rationalized by analogy with photoreduction reactions of biphenyl derivatives. Nitrodiphenyl can also be synthesized by the photoinduced reaction of cyanide ion with biphenyl. 4-Cyano-4'-nitrodiphenyl is a cyanide ion analog and has chemical properties similar to those of cyanide ions. It can undergo substitution reactions, such as those with hydrogen chloride, which results in an addition product.
