2-Chloro-5-nitrobenzene sulfonyl chloride is an antiplatelet agent that is used as a pharmaceutical drug. It reduces the aggregation of platelets by inhibiting the conversion of ADP to ATP, which leads to vasodilation and inhibition of blood clot formation. 2-Chloro-5-nitrobenzene sulfonyl chloride inhibits the reaction system by reacting with thionyl chloride and ultraviolet light to form a reactive intermediate, chloranil. This intermediate reacts with aromatic hydrocarbons in the presence of glycol ethers to produce bioactive molecules such as chlorinated phenols and chlorinated naphthalenes. These compounds have been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in vitro through inhibition of protein synthesis at high concentrations.
