Calcium molybdate is a chemical compound that contains molybdenum and calcium. It is a white crystalline solid with a Mohs hardness of 2.5 and a low solubility in water. Calcium molybdate is stable in neutral, alkaline, and acidic solutions and has an optimum concentration of 0.1 M at pH 7. Calcium molybdate is used as an analytical reagent for the determination of sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) in the presence of hydrochloric acid (HCl).
Calcium molybdate can be prepared by reacting water vapor with particles of sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), which are heated to around 1400°C in the presence of oxygen gas (O2). The reaction solution can be analyzed using plasma mass spectrometry to determine the structural composition.
