Description

4-Chloro-3-ethylphenol is a diphenyl ether that is used in the treatment of wastewater. It has been shown to bind to the cytosolic calcium ion, and can be detected at a concentration of 1 μM, with a fluorescence probe. 4-Chloro-3-ethylphenol also interacts with caffeine and forskolin, which are both known to influence intracellular calcium levels. The kinetic energy of 4-chloro-3-ethylphenol binding to the ryanodine receptor has been measured using hl-60 cells. This chemical has been shown to be useful in diagnosing various types of cancer, such as leukemia and lymphoma.
