Description:

3-Chloropyridine is a nitrogen heterocycle that contains a palladium atom in the center. This molecule has a coordination geometry of square pyramidal, with four hydrogen bonds. 3-Chloropyridine can be used as a catalyst for reactions involving hydrogen and carbon monoxide. It has been shown to form reaction products, such as ethylene, acetaldehyde and propene, which are all important compounds in the chemical industry. 3-Chloropyridine also has optical properties, such as absorption and emission of light.
3-Chloropyridine is a n-oxide of pyridine that reacts in the presence of water or an alkaline solution to produce hydrogen chloride gas and ammonia gas. The reaction mechanism is not well understood but involves the intermediates HOCl and HOCH2Cl.
