Cyclohexanone cyanohydrin is an organic compound that can be synthesized from ethyl esters or nitroethane. This compound has been used in the synthesis of cyclic amides and carboxylic acids. The reaction of this compound with an inorganic acid yields a chloride or carboxylate salt. Cyclohexanone cyanohydrin reacts with piperazine to produce an amide, which can be hydrolyzed to yield a nitro group. This synthetic compound is also used as a precursor for carbon nanotubes.
