4-Chloro-N-methylaniline is a chlorinated aromatic compound that is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It has been shown to have the potential to induce liver injury and to inhibit protein synthesis. 4-Chloro-N-methylaniline has been shown to cause liver injury in rats, either by inhibiting fatty acid synthesis or by inducing epoxidase activity and aminotransferase activities, which may be due to its ability to bind with p-450 enzymes. 4-Chloro-N-methylaniline can also form adducts with nucleic acids, such as DNA and RNA, which may interfere with the production of proteins vital for cell division. The molecule also has hydrogen bonding interactions with water molecules.
