Description

Chloroacetic anhydride is a polyester that is used as a model system for the study of the interactions between alkanoic acids and integrin receptors. It was found to be a high-resistance chemical compound, which can cause neuronal death in humans. Chloroacetic anhydride has also been shown to have antiviral properties against HIV and influenza, as well as antibacterial properties against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Chloroacetic anhydride reacts with potassium dichromate to form ester hydrochloride, which has been shown to be active against infectious diseases such as amebiasis, cholera, and malaria. This reaction mechanism is related to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis by interfering with the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase.
