Product Information
- 3-Isocyanatobenzonitrile
- Benzonitrile, 3-isocyanato-
- 3-Cyanophenylisocyanate
3-Cyanophenyl isocyanate is an aromatic compound that has a prenyl group. 3-Cyanophenyl isocyanate inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the enzyme, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase, which catalyzes the conversion of phenylalanine to tyrosine in bacteria. This inhibitory effect leads to a loss of the molecule class that serves as a precursor for mycolic acid synthesis in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. 3-Cyanophenyl isocyanate also has antibacterial activity against other bacteria and fungi. In addition, 3-cyanophenyl isocyanate has been shown to inhibit cavity formation and cellular growth in human epithelial cells. This inhibition may be due to its ability to bind with functional groups on protein surfaces.
