Description

5-Chloro-2-benzimidazolone is an aminoguanidine derivative that inhibits the induction of the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and prevents the secretion of nitric oxide. It also inhibits macrophages, endothelial cells, and neuronal cells. The inhibitory activity of 5-chloro-2-benzimidazolone on macrophages has been shown to be selective for lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced over LPS/interleukin 1β induced or LPS/tumor necrosis factor α induced. It also has a high selectivity for inhibiting iNOS in mouse macrophages over other iNOS isoforms.
