Product Information

Name:
2-Chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine
Synonyms:
  • Pyrimidine, 2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-
  • 4-Trifluoromethyl-2-chloropyrimidine
Description:

2-Chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine is a chlorinated pyrimidine that is used primarily as an ancillary to modify the properties of polyvinyl acetate (PVA). It has been shown that PVA with 2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine as the coating agent have increased resistance to alkylation, carboxylic acids, and oxidative degradation. This chemical is also used in coatings for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) materials and has been shown to increase their quantum efficiency. The use of 2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine in coatings increases the adhesion of PVA to PVC by forming covalent bonds between the carboxylic groups on the polymer and the acetylene groups on the coating.
