4-Chloro-N-[2-[[5-(trifluoromethyl)-2-pyridinyl]sulfonyl]ethyl]-benzamide is a fluorescent sensor for optical systems. The compound is programmed to recognize cancer cells and fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) occurs when the fluorophore on the sensor binds to its target. This binding will cause a change in the optical properties of the system, which can be detected with sensors that are positioned around the cell. 4-Chloro-N-[2-[[5-(trifluoromethyl)-2-pyridinyl]sulfonyl]ethyl]-benzamide has been shown to inhibit gene transcription in cells treated with ligands. This inhibition may be due to its ability to bind DNA, preventing transcription and replication.
