2-[4-[2-[(4-Chlorophenyl)sulfonylamino]ethylsulfanyl]-2,6-difluorophenoxy]acetic acid, also known as pentafloxacin, is an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. It has been shown to be effective in treating staphylococcus infections and chlamydia infections. Pentafloxacin has been studied for use in radical prostatectomy and found to have a significant inhibitory effect on postoperative recurrence of the prostate gland. The effect of pentafloxacin on plant cells is not completely understood but it is thought that this antibiotic may have an inhibitory effect on cell growth.
