Pitavastatin is a drug that is used in the treatment of hyperlipidemia. It inhibits the synthesis of cholesterol by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A to mevalonate. Pitavastatin has been shown to have no adverse effects on the kidneys or liver. In addition, it inhibits tumor growth with cisplatin cytotoxicity and has been shown to inhibit calcium influx into cells and reduce lipid accumulation in non-diabetic patients.
