Description:
Prasugrel is a thrombin receptor antagonist that inhibits the binding of thrombin to its receptor, which prevents the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin. It has been shown to be an effective treatment for myocardial infarction (MI). Prasugrel is a prodrug and metabolized by hydrolysis in plasma and liver. The pharmacokinetic properties of prasugrel are determined by hepatic cytochrome P450 activity, influenced by genetic polymorphisms, and may be modified by drugs such as heparin. Prasugrel also inhibits platelet aggregation and adhesion through cation channel inhibition.
