Description:

4-chloro-1,2-difluorobenzene (4-CDF) is a chlorinated derivative of 1,2-difluorobenzene. It is used in the synthesis of medicines and as a solvent for plastics and other organic substances. 4-CDF has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by reacting with the cell membrane, which may be due to its ability to form stable chloroacetic acid derivatives that react with proton receptors. The reaction between 4-CDF and chlorine produces hypochlorite ions, which are toxic to bacteria. The reaction also releases hydrogen chloride gas that reacts with nitrite ions to produce nitrogen dioxide gas. The release of these gases can cause irritation or burns on skin or eyes.
