3-Chloro-2,6-difluorobenzoic acid is an amide that can be synthesized by reacting 2,6-difluoroaniline with chlorosulfonic acid. 3-Chloro-2,6-difluorobenzoic acid is used in the production of a variety of drugs including antimalarial agents and antibiotics. 3-Chloro-2,6-difluorobenzoic acid can also be used to produce benzoic acid or its derivatives by decarboxylating it. In order to produce an amine from 3-chloro-2,6-difluorobenzoic acid, the amide group has to be removed first through a reaction with ammonia gas.
