2-Chloro-1,5-difluoro-3-nitrobenzene (2CDFNB) is a fluorinated sulfone that is an intermediate in the synthesis of potassium 2,5-dichloro-3-nitrobenzenesulfonate. This compound has optimum reaction conditions at a temperature of from about -30° C. to about -10° C., with a reaction time of from about 1 hour to about 12 hours. The optimal mixtures are from about 3% to about 20% dimethyl fluoride and from about 3% to about 20% KF, with the preferred range being from about 5% to about 15%. The intermediates are fluorides or fluorinated compounds that have been generated through the addition of HF.
