Description

2-Chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)phenol is a photoinduced, volatile, and soluble chemical that is used as an additive in food products. 2-Chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)phenol is synthesized from 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid by the addition of chlorine to form the trifluoromethyl group. The compound has been shown to have a quantum yield of 0.04% and can be obtained by liquid chromatography. 2-Chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)phenol has also been shown to be toxic at high concentrations in deionized water and other solvents.
