Description:

The 2-chloro-5-nitropyridine can be synthesized by the reaction of diethyl malonate with nitric acid. The reaction is selective and has a high yield. The 2-chloro-5-nitropyridine could be used in chemical reactions, but it is also environmentally sensitive. This compound can be made by reacting diethyl malonate with nitric acid in an alkaline environment to form the 2-chloro-5-nitropyridine. It reacts with ammonia to form the diazotation product, which is then hydrolyzed to produce the desired product.
