2-Chloro-4-fluorobenzenesulfonyl chloride (CS) is an inhibitor of β-glucosidase, a target enzyme for the treatment of allergic disorders. This drug is chemically related to sulfonamides, which have been used in the past as antibiotics. CS has shown selectivity for β-glucosidase and other related enzymes that are involved in histamine metabolism. CS inhibits histamine release by competitively binding to the active site of β-glucosidase, preventing substrate binding and catalysis. It reversibly binds to the enzyme and can be used orally or topically. CS has also been shown to inhibit urtica dioica (nettle), suggesting a possible use as an antiallergic agent.
