Cadmium acetate dihydrate is a salt of cadmium and acetic acid. It is an inorganic compound that has been used as an analytical reagent for the determination of water vapor. This material can be synthesized by the reaction of sodium acetate with cadmium oxide, which produces cadmium acetate dihydrate and sodium hydroxide. The coordination geometry of this compound is octahedral, with a Cd-O bond length of 1.7 Å and a Cd-Cd distance of 2.3 Å. Cadmium acetate dihydrate has been shown to inhibit angiotensin I converting enzyme (ACE) activity and increase blood pressure in animals, although its physiological effects are not well understood.
