2-Chloro-4-nitropyridine is a reactive, electron deficient compound. It is an n-oxide and an isomer of 3-Amino-2-chloro-4-methylpyridine. 2CNP is a functional molecule with the molecular electrostatic potential. This compound has been shown to induce cell apoptosis in neuronal cells. It can be reduced by hydroxide ion to form 2,4,5,6-tetranitrobenzene, which is used as a chemical intermediate in organic synthesis. Hydrochloric acid will react with 2CNP to form nitrosochloropyridine and hydroxylamine.
