2-Chlorophenylhydrazine HCl (2-CPH) is a cytotoxic agent that inhibits the growth of tumour cells. 2-CPH is an alkaline compound that reacts with sodium hydrogen to form 2-chlorophenol, which binds to DNA and causes cancerous changes. 2-CPH has been shown to inhibit the expression of polyalthenols in tumour cell lines. It also inhibits the efflux pump in Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, which may result in a higher therapeutic response. Impurities are not detected by this method, but can be detected using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The reaction time for 2-CPH is short and it does not react with erythromycin or human cancer cells.
