4-Chloro-2-methylpyrimidine is a viscosity control agent that belongs to the group of aminoxides. It is an organic solvent, which is colorless and has a pleasant odor. 4-Chloro-2-methylpyrimidine has been shown to be effective as a deodorizer in polyvinyl, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, saccharose, glycol ethers, and fatty acids. This chemical also enhances the surfactant properties of cationic surfactants like sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate, sodium octadecyl benzene sulfonate, and other synthetic anionic or nonionic surfactants. It can be used for the manufacture of textile auxiliaries such as wetting agents and foam stabilizers.
