5-(3-Chlorophenyl)-2-furaldehyde is a chemical compound that has an inhibitory effect on activated muscle cells. It also inhibits cancer cell growth and the production of reactive oxygen species by β-unsaturated ketones. The inhibition of reactive oxygen species production may be due to its ability to inhibit efflux, or removal, of glutathione from the cell. 5-(3-Chlorophenyl)-2-furaldehyde has been shown to have potent inhibitory activity against ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats.
