Description

2-Chloro-N-(2,6-diethylphenyl)acetamide is the parent compound of desethylatrazine. It is a bacteriostatic agent that inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting protein synthesis and DNA replication. 2-Chloro-N-(2,6-diethylphenyl)acetamide has been shown to be active against strains of bacteria that produce chloroacetanilides (e.g., Salmonella typhimurium), but not against strains that produce amide (e.g., Escherichia coli). This drug also has immunosuppressive effects in humans and rats, which may be due to its ability to inhibit lymphocyte proliferation.
