3-Chloro-4-nitropyridine is an isomer of 3-chloro-4-nitrobenzoyl chloride. It has antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant staphylococci, which may be due to its ability to bind to the 30S ribosomal subunit and inhibit protein synthesis. 3-Chloro-4-nitropyridine also binds to the dehydropeptidase enzyme, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the cleavage of peptide bonds in proteins, leading to cell death by inhibiting protein synthesis. The spectrum of this compound shows a lanthanide ion at δ 5.8 ppm, suggesting that it has a dianion form.
