2-Chloro-N,N-dimethylnicotinamide is a chlorinating agent that reacts with hydrogen chloride to form chlorine gas. It is used as a water disinfectant and in the production of plastics. 2-Chloro-N,N-dimethylnicotinamide also serves as a precursor in the synthesis of other important compounds such as benzidine and chloral hydrate. The reaction time for this chemical process ranges from 30 minutes to 6 hours and the yield can be up to 90%.
