6-Chloro-1,3-benzoxazole-2-thiol is a chemical that is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It reacts with carbon disulphide to form 6-chloro-1,3-benzoxazole and 2 chloromethylsulphinic acid (CMSA) in an equilibrium reaction. CMSA can then be reacted with triphosgene to form methoxybenzenes. The product of this reaction can be purified by distillation and recrystallization. 6-Chloro-1,3-benzoxazole has been shown to be safe for use in the environment and does not react with chlorine or other substances.
6-Chloro-1,3-benzoxazole is also used as an intermediate in the production of carbonyl compounds such as methylbenzene. This chemical can react with sodium hydroxide solution to produce
