4-(2-Chlorophenoxy)benzaldehyde is a synthetic chemical that has been shown to have anticoagulant and analgesic properties. It also has potent antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Enterococcus faecium. This compound is used in the synthesis of various drugs, including the antiretroviral drug abacavir, which is used to treat HIV infection. 4-(2-Chlorophenoxy)benzaldehyde interacts with microbial ribonucleotide reductase (NS5B) polymerase and may be useful as an anti-HIV agent. The crystallographic structure of this compound was determined by X-ray crystallography.
