Product Information
- 1,4-Dioxane, 2-(Chloromethyl)-
- p-Dioxane, 2-(chloromethyl)-
2-(Chloromethyl)-1,4-dioxane is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of other chemicals. It reacts with phenylacetonitrile to produce chloroform and nitromethane. 2-(Chloromethyl)-1,4-dioxane has been shown to be toxic to animal cells in culture. This chemical can react with alkali metals and chloride ions to form an alkali metal 2-(chloromethyl)-1,4-dioxanate complex. This complex can then be hydrolyzed by hydroxymethyl groups to form the semivolatile 2-(chloromethyl)-1,4-dioxane. The reactions between this chemical and halides are catalyzed by metal carbonates such as magnesium carbonate or potassium carbonate. These reactions can also be catalyzed by alkoxycarbonyl groups, which have been found in polymers such as polystyrene or poly
