Description:
2-Cyano-N-(1,5-dimethyl-3-oxo-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)acetamide (CPZ) is an antimicrobial that belongs to the group of pyrrole and pyridine derivatives. It inhibits bacterial growth by acting as a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme enoyl reductase, which is involved in the synthesis of fatty acids. CPZ was found to be active against gram positive and gram negative bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The structure of CPZ is similar to antipyrine, which has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties.
