Product Information
4-Chloro-5-methylpyrimidine is a white solid that can be obtained by the reaction of anhydrous sodium chlorides with 4-chloro-5-methylpyridine. It is used in the synthesis of sulfamethoxazole and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol. The product yield can be increased by adding a constant amount of anhydrous sodium chloride to the reaction mixture. The filtrate obtained from the reaction is evaporated and then dissolved in difluoride anhydride to produce 4-chloro-5-methylpyrimidine. This process leads to high product yields and low amounts of waste products.
