Description:
5-Chloro-2-hydroxypyrimidine is a crystalline compound that has been shown to be an inactivator of colchicine. It binds to the active site of the enzyme and prevents the formation of the toxic product, 5-chloro-2,4,6-trimethoxypyrimidine. This compound has also been shown to have dehydrogenase activity in liver cells. At high concentrations, 5-chloro-2-hydroxypyrimidine can inhibit cellular processes such as metaphase and cytokinesis.
