Description

8-Chloro-2-(2-furyl)quinoline-4-carboxylic acid (8CQCA) is a coumarin derivative that is used as an inhibitor of the RNA polymerase. It binds to the active site of the enzyme, blocking the synthesis of RNA. 8CQCA has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial DNA polymerase and increase sensitivity to cisplatin in cancer cells. 8CQCA has also been shown to inhibit polymerases involved in DNA replication, such as DNA and RNA polymerases, and this inhibition can lead to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division.
