2-Chloro-1-methyl-1H-benzimidazole (2CMB) is a molecule that modulates mitochondrial membrane potential. It has been shown to affect the mitochondrial membrane potential in cells, as well as induce cell death by apoptosis. This compound has also been shown to have antiulcer activity and deuteriochloroform. 2CMB is a potent inhibitor of vitamin B12 synthesis and is used in the synthesis of fluorescent molecules. In addition, this compound can be used to measure the mitochondrial membrane potential using fluorescence spectroscopy techniques.
