2-Chloro-1,1,1-triethoxyethane is a synthetic compound that was designed to have anticancer and antibacterial properties. This chemical has been shown to inhibit the growth of human liver cells and cervical cancer cells in vitro. It also inhibits the activity of kinase-3β, which is an enzyme involved in DNA synthesis and repair. 2-Chloro-1,1,1-triethoxyethane binds to nucleophilic residues on proteins, such as serine or threonine amino acid residues. This binding leads to alkylation of these residues and the inhibition of protein synthesis by preventing the formation of new peptide bonds. 2-Chloro-1,1,1-triethoxyethane has been shown to be effective against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
