2-Chloro-N-(4-cyanophenyl)acetamide is an antimicrobial agent that is used to treat tuberculosis. It is a structural analog of isoniazid and has been shown to be effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium avium complex and S. pneumoniae. 2-Chloro-N-(4-cyanophenyl)acetamide has also been shown to have antimycobacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains and Pneumocystis carinii. This compound inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA gyrase, preventing the unwinding of the double helix during replication.
2-Chloro-N-(4-cyanophenyl)acetamide is structurally related to isoniazid and ethionamide, which are both antituberculosis drugs. Elemental analysis revealed that this compound contains carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, and chlorine atoms
