N-(Cyanomethyl)acetamide is a polyfunctional compound with antibacterial properties. It inhibits the enzyme immunoproteasome, which is involved in protein degradation and antigen presentation, as well as the enzyme chalcone synthase, which controls the synthesis of flavonoids. This inhibition leads to an increased level of proinflammatory cytokines and a reduced inflammatory response. N-(Cyanomethyl)acetamide has also been shown to be effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other organisms that are resistant to ceftriaxone. The molecular structure of this substance is similar to that of fluoroquinolones, such as ciprofloxacin.
