2-Chloroisonicotinohydrazide is an anti-tuberculosis drug that belongs to the class of isonicotinic hydrazides. It has been shown to be toxicological and horticultural. 2-Chloroisonicotinohydrazide is also a radical adduct, which can form as an isomer of 2-chloropyridine, a chemical compound used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals and pesticides. The anti-tuberculosis properties of this compound are due to its ability to form an adduct with the nucleophile thiol groups on the mycobacterial enzyme dihydrofolate reductase. This adduct prevents the enzyme from functioning, thereby inhibiting bacterial growth.
